Beautiful Patterns in Nature:
Gray Scott Model
F. Hecht, S.M. Kaber

The Gray-Scott model (two nonlinear parabolic equations) is a model of chemical reaction between two constituants. It also describes the evolution of the population density u(x,t) of active cells at location x and the evolution of the nutrient concentration v(x,t). See the course Growth, reaction, movement and diffusion from biology by B. Perthame

The computation have been done using the Finite Element Solver Freefem. The movie represents the evolution of the total population u+w, with w the density of passive cells.
