Beautiful Patterns in Nature:
Lengyel-Epstein model (CIMA)
F. Hecht, S.M. Kaber
The Lengyel-Epstein model (two nonlinear parabolic equations) is a
model for a competition between an activator and an inhibitor. It is
widely used to investigate Turing patterns. See the course Growth,
reaction, movement and diffusion from biology by B. Perthame
The computation have been done using the Finite Element Solver
Freefem.
The movies represent the evolution of the concentration of the
activator (iodide) for two different sets of initial/coefficients
parameters.
